Hiking & Biking

Adventure Awaits

Some of the best riding sites in the world can be found here in central Vancouver Island. This area, particularly in the Comox Valley, is used as training ground for various national and international competitions. Mount Washington is quickly becoming one of Canada's top riding sites for its gnarly single-track trails. BMXers will enjoy the state-of-the-art riding venue at Coal Hills BMX Park in Cumberland. For a slower pace, take a leisurely ride through level trails in Seal Bay Park. Explore the woods around Comox Lake, which boast the largest mountain bike trail system on Vancouver Island.

If hiking is more your pace, you'll find great trails just minutes from your campsite. Across the Oyster River is the "two pub trail", aptly named for the two pubs you encounter on this 45 minute hike; one at the start and another at the end of the trail. You can hike to the Oyster River Salmon Enhancement Nature Center to view spawning salmon, or hike the Oyster River Nature Trail, where you will see eagles, ducks and gulls. You will find many other trails just a short drive from Pacific Playgrounds, south to Mt Washington and North to Strathcona Provincial Park.
